How do I get to Venice ?The Isle of Venice is located directly on the Gulf of Mexico, about 20 miles south of Sarasota and 75 miles south of Tampa-St. Pete. We are approximately half way between Tampa/St. Pete and Ft. Myers. By Air: We are about an hour's drive from either TIA (Tampa International) or Ft Myers. Venice also has it's own non-commercial airport which since it is a designated backup for TIA, can handle almost any size plane or jet. By Car. Venice is located just a few miles off Interstate 75. Tamiami Trail (US Highway 41) passes through town. By Boat: Situated on the Intercoastal Waterway, Venice has many full service marinas with transient dockage. Venice claims the only mainland beaches along the Suncoast, yet Venice became an island in 1964 when the US Army Corp of Engineers dug the "ditch", connecting the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway) from both the north and the south. Since that time, the only way to get on the "Isle of Venice" is to cross one of the three draw bridges that serve the island.
